A Year in the Rearview

December 8, 2009

Looking back at 2009

The alumni association had a very productive and exciting year in 2009. With our deep appreciation for hundreds of alumni and dedicated staff who contributed, here are some highlights:

• Reinvented our campus celebrations for young and old by launching Young Alumni Weekend and the Five Star Festival, both of which had very promising starts.

• Reunion Weekend was well attended and celebrated wonderful giving despite the challenging economy. Recognized worthy graduates with the Distinguished Alumni Award.

• Hosted a lively and successful national gathering: the ‘Boston Road Trip’

• Designed and successfully staged Black Alumni 2009.

• In partnership with the Alumni Board, made significant progress on our new strategic plan, with special focus on our 88 chapters. Assisted our chapters in sponsoring over 400 events across the country and in the UK. Launched very popular chapter blogs. Recognized the winners of the Mink Conference.

• Adopted and began implementing a written plan for broader alumni engagement, with special focus on younger alumni.

• Collaborated with the Athletic Department to stage Hall of Fame weekend, welcoming four new members.

• Elected six new talented members of the Alumni Board. Bios can be accessed by clicking the individual’s name.

• Submitted our confidential slate of nominees to the Board of Trustees, one of whom will be installed in February.

• Strengthened our web presence and online alumni community ‘Colonnade Connections.’

• Elected new members of Kathekon, our ‘student alumni’ group, and continued to strengthen and focus that group of future leaders.

The Alumni Affairs office and the Alumni Board are extremely grateful for the efforts of the best and most loyal alumni in the world. Your energy and devotion to W&L make it our pleasure to serve.

WARM BEST WISHES for a happy holiday season and a rewarding 2010 for you and yours. We are excited about 2010 and look forward to seeing you on campus or at a chapter event.
